Yankees fans, prepare to be unhappy. The video you are about to watch has the potential to be very damning for Mariano Rivera and the Yankees. This is footage taken during the bottom of the 10th of Mariano Rivera – on the mound – apparently spitting on the ball.
If this is true, it’s very bad news for Rivera. Spitballs have been illegal since the freakin’ 1920s, as they are “highly dangerous” for batters.

It’s impossible for me to believe that his entire 15-year dominance of Major League hitters has merely been the result of some performance enhancing saliva. So I don’t think he’s a habitual hawker. But if he did resort to cheating last night I’m gonna have to say “bad form!” Though it pains me to do so.
This video has some key frames removed from it. Pardon the Interruption on ESPN played a version of the video that shows the spit passing by the ball before the shot cuts away.
