People that have never boxed or don't truly understand the sport fail to realize that one of the main purposes of the heavier padded gloves in boxing is to keep the boxers hands from breaking and to prevent too many cuts. Getting cut up or breaking your hand in a sport that is all about punching is a bad thing so hence the more padded glove. But the force of the punch is the SAME!

This might be the stupidest sports-related post I've seen all year. First, boxing has drawn two pay-per-views of 1 million-plus this year. Has MMA? Nope.

Second, it's much more dangerous to fight with 8-ounce boxing gloves than MMA gloves. Sure, they offer more protection, but they also offer more mass. More mass plus velocity equals greater impact force.

Stick to something you know. Boxing clearly isn't it.

It's incredible to read this ignorance.

Not only are the majority of these comments based on nothing more than blinded resistance to change, but the article itself doesn't appear to be fully educated about the sport of mma.

I'm not trying to take a dig at anyone (especially the authors). I'm just saying people should be more knowledgeable about the sport before forming an opinion and going on a rant about it.

(No offense igor...but Penn has never finished a fight via kimura, and I cannot think of a single time when he has had anyone in danger with one.)

Boxing can still draw way higher if they put together the right event. Mayweather/Pacquiao will outdraw any UFC event next year. Also I'm puzzled by that boxing-soccer, UFC-football comment. Yes, boxing and soccer are more popular worldwide than UFC and gridiron but soccer's popularity is rising in the US and gridiron remains a national institution.

R U FUCKING KIDDING! RANDY COUTURE a legend of MMA has a 16-10 record, name a legend in boxing that has lost almost 50% of their fights. Boxing matches often determine who the better fighter is, in MMA its so much easier to catch someone and get a knockout without having more skill, Love both, but boxing is the best by far if were talking about competition and not just hoping to see a knockout.
