Bottle Service: Spirytus, Poland

For the next couple of weeks, we will be featuring a badass spirit from Europe that you might not know about. First up the big daddy of them all, Spirytus! There is a reason this stuff is barely legal anywhere but Poland…it has a whopping 96% (192 proof) alcohol content.

This highly concentrated rectified spirit is designed to be a base for other alcohols. But to prove themselves to be badasses, you can see plenty of guys – especially tourists – downing the potent drink straight up as a shot.

Now, just think about that for a second: If your average vodka has an alcohol percentage of about 40% then a shot of Spirytus is like doing almost two and a half vodka shots in one go! If you want to find it in the States, it is imported in Chicago under the name Spirytus Stawski.

If you look hard enough you might find the original Polmos label. But be a man and get the 96% stuff not that pathetic 76% variety someone came up with.
