Alcohol Linked to 1 in 25 Deaths, Is Still Awesome
June 26, 2009 Posted in News-ish

A new report has linked alcohol consumption to one in 25 of all deaths worldwide. The study, conducted by a team from the University of Toronto, found that the average amount of alcohol consumed worldwide is 12 drinks-per-week. In the United States, that number jumps up to 17-per-week, whereas in the Middle East (where alcohol is widely banned) that number drops to 1.3. But Europe takes the award for biggest lushes, with a whopping 21.5 drinks-per-week.
In Russia, however, half of all deaths of people 15-54 are the result of “excessive alcohol consumption”. F**king half!
Since 2000, alcohol-related deaths have jumped significantly worldwide, attributed mostly to an increase in women consuming alcohol. However, men still bear the brunt of the fatalities, with men being five times more likely to die from alcohol-related deaths than women.
Ok, so now we know exactly what we knew before this frightening report came out: Drinking too much will f**king kill you! No sh*t. But that doesn’t mean we should ban alcohol or being to limit its sale, as some are calling for after the news of this report. It means that people need to be better educated in the effects and dangers of alcohol.
And another thing, if alcohol kills so many damn people, why is marijuana, which hasn’t killed anyone, still illegal?
