I learned something from this, so thank you! I have been drinking Chevas Regal and it's good, but now that I know how it's different from the blended whisky in Johnny Green I will definitely give that a go. Great article for a beginning aficionado. :)

Just a small note, Glenkinchie is distilled 5 miles from my house and I am nowhere near Ireland. Try the capital city Edinburgh or Tranent if you want to be exact. Good to see my personal favourite at 5 though!

Love your choice of Johnnie Green - definitely more value to the sip!!! Have to say my personal choice lies on the island of Islay...smoke and more smoke. Love the article because I have a definite love for both of these distillations, and yet there must be a vote for the Irish!!???

@Russ
These are all from my own tastings, but this is not a list of my personal favorites. This is simply a list of scotches that are an easy switchover, flavor-wise, for a bourbon drinker and vice versa. Were I to list my favorites, I would have to agree with you on the Macallan and the Oban - both great. I'm not a huge fan of Bruichladdich, but that's just a personal choice, not to say anything of the quality of the whisky. However, I must disagree about Oban being the "smokiest of them all"; you must have never tried Laphroaig 10-YO Cask Strength (and Lagavoulin 16 and Ardbeg 10 are damn good and smokey as well).
