Bad Luck Ensures Knicks Are Losers, Even In The Off-Season

If it wasn’t for bad luck, the New York Knicks wouldn’t have any luck at all.

With this year’s draft selection being one of the final pieces to lure LeBron James to New York next summer, the Knicks once again missed out on a huge opportunity to add a potential star player. The Knicks won the first draft lottery in league history back in 1985, but haven’t won since.

Whether you believe it was fixed or plain dumb luck that brought Patrick Ewing to New York, the Knicks had a strategy to ensure they had as much luck on their side as possible. Former Knick legend Dave DeBusschere sat up on the podium for New York, holding onto a horseshoe from On The Road Again, the horse who had broken his own track record at Yonkers Raceway the previous night.

This year, the Knicks sent Allan Houston as their representative, and resident ‘good luck charm.’

But doesn’t that seem backwards?  Wasn’t it Allan Houston’s $100M contract and subsequent career-ending injury that crippled the Knicks cap situation for a decade and ultimately caused their downward spiral into mediocrity and ineptitude?  Doesn’t Houston signify bad luck for the Knicks?

But that is the Knicks’ style.  And that is one reason why they won’t have Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, or Hasheem Thabeet sitting on their roster next summer when LeBron is deciding which team he wants to call his team.
