The new Star Trek universe is the parallel to the old Star Trek universe. Because the Romulans ripped the Space-Time continuum asunder, and changed certain events, paradoxes were forced to correct themselves. Thus: George Kirk had to die by the hand of the Romulans, in attempt to capture young Ambassador Spock, changing Jim Kirk's personality to delinquent for lack of a father figure, thus creating a new persona for the James T. Kirk character for a new actor to best fit the role (I.E. Chris Pine). Zachary Quinto's Spock was written as a Half-Vulcan-Half-Human who had trouble learning the kolinahr ritual efficiently, thus causing emotional breakouts from time to time. The eyebrow raise, however, probably was not scripted, and seeing as Quinto's expertise in character only goes as far as a wannabe Lex Luthor in Heroes, he did not ad-lib an eyebrow raise, whereas Nimoy would have. C'est la vie. The Spock/Uhura affair was something thrown in last minute as a paradoxical phenomenon; Spock meets Uhura first day of Enterprise's sail, befriends, original timeline goes on as such/ Spock meets cadet Uhura at the Academy, befriends, is overcome by his half-human emotions and falls in love, new timeline goes on as such. Abrams knew he couldn't do Star Trek as accurately to the original series as fans would have intended, so he did research and continued a storyline that was left off at the end of a Star Trek spin-off, but from the perspective of the changed lives of the individuals involved, at the time of their meeting.
As for the Star Wars storyline butt-hurt the author of this post seems to harbor, Star Wars was a rip off of several different movies/books all at the same time. The storyline of the old man encouraging the young man to leave his farmland home and go on an adventure abroad is a classic tale, one relative to Errol Flynn, Treasure Island, Sinbad and a number of others. C3P0 is designed after a Robot from the 1920's hit Futureworld, and in fact no copyright fees were paid for the distinct similarity. Nothing in Hollywood is completely original.

[...] Star Trek alien sensation T’pol was the only alien on the first human space ship. She was sweet, intelligent, sensual, and fierece. However, if we loved Vulcans to date for their logic, this was one hot number that really talked to your libido instead. Let first contact take place and let Tpol be present please.
I agree with most of the negative reviews of the new Star Trek Movie. I have like most watched all of the original series episodes including the next generation and part of the voyager series.

The biggest issue I have is that the set designers of the latest movie did not pay any attention the detail of what the original enterprise looked in the original series. I remember a Next Generation episode where Scotty was trapped in a transporter buffer and was materialized in the TNG enterprise timeline. Scotty goes to the hollow deck and recreates the bridge of the original enterprise. Guess what the bridge looked exactly like the one from the original series. My hats off to Rick Berman for a job well done! If the time in the latest movie the same as the original series then the bridge, uniforms, and props should have been the same and they were not.

I am sure Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave over this one. Good grief paramount have you writers and set designer pay attention to detail. If this is any indication of future production then you can forget about me watching or going to any further Star Trek flops!

Thanks for nothing.

hey you need to make this at least a top ten things wrong.

Don't forget.

7. spock making out with ohura? wtf is that

8. scotty was a clown. literally.

9. the bad actor casted as spock had too much emotion and could not even lift up his freaking eyebrow at the end scene with nimoy!

10. kirk was a joke. don't eve get me started.

11. yes the tattooed romularns were rediculous

12. the ship looked like the most futuristic trek to this date for being the beginning.

13. chekov was a poor casting job and so was sulu.

14. the movie made the tv show look cheesy.

15. they had no right to use the star trek original theme , or call this star trek.

In conclution, I think it shows a serious lack of creativity on hollywood's part.
They have to make a quick buck like that.
I almost walked out every five minutes.
I call this film "heroes" meets "american idol" in space.
Hey I'm glad this peice of crap was made. I am so pist the trailer is on every damn blue ray movie though.
I hope none of the people from the new movie are at any convention.

The Ship, and the effects were good. The characters, plot, and actors were horrible. Trek cannon was severely tampered with. It felt dark, and not like Star Trek at all. Why did the Romulans look like neo-nazis? You can't call chicken, fish, and you can't call this farce Star Trek. A name and ships are not enough. Sulu was a botanist before a helmsman. Kirks first ship was Faragut, not Enterprise. And nobody, even in war goes from cadet to ship's captain.

@ Trevor are you trying to tell me Spock wouldn't know about a federation base within view of his home planet ?!?!?

I think this movie sucked for all the reason cited and more. I was expecting "old" Spock to be sleeping in a Tauntaun when Captn' Jerk just happened to find his ice cave after almost becoming "Wampa" poo. (Spoiler alert) Sulu will be using a lightsaber in the next movie. The worst part is this suckfest did well enough that it will be the model by which future Star Trek movies will be molded. What was up with alt Spock's love affair with Uhura? His planet is destroyed, He just watched his Mommie get snuffed and BANG he's wanting to knock boots with a human? What happened to the 7 year itch and logic
