Boston University “Craigslist Killer” Had Gambling Debts, Plastic Handcuffs, Guns At Home

The accused “Craigslist Killer” – ordered held without bail Tuesday for the murder of a New York masseuse – may have been driven by gambling debts, authorities said. Police sources speculated that Philip Markoff, a preppy Boston University medical student engaged to be married in August, devised a fiendish plan to pay off the debts by robbing escorts who might not report the attacks.
Cops said they found a semiautomatic handgun and plastic “zip tie” handcuffs like those the killer used in a raid on his apartment in Quincy, Mass.
