There are so many things to do in Cabo if you find yourself in Mexico. But some people, particularly west coasters just looking for a quick fix, can only get away for the weekend. If you’ve got a weekend in Cabo, figuring out exactly what to do is of course up to you, but below is what I’d recommend based on the few days I recently spent in Cabo. This list does not include your typical spring-break partying spots, but if those are what you’re looking for, I have faith you can find them without my help. If you’ve got suggestions besides these, leave them in a comment for our readers!

1. Stay at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica

That is, if you can afford a resort. If you’re saving up for a special weekend and can afford a resort, dear god, by all means, book a room at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica. This place is nuts. Upon walking into the domed lobby, you’ll hear running water and smell lavender. This place is designed for relaxation and is, gasp, a little new-agey…so if that turns you off, move onto number two of this post immediately. But the idea of relaxing in a new-agey resort didn’t turn me off a bit. The staff are warm and welcoming and, luckily for me, speak English well. Pueblo Bonito Pacifica overlooks a private beach. The landscape is rocky, the weather is perfect, and the sun rise is out of this world. The hotel has got uniquely shaped pools that surround a swim-up bar, the largest hot tub I’ve ever been in, and even canopied beds sitting in the sand, overlooking the waves. The rooms are peaceful and elegant, equipped with a balcony overlooking the ocean. More or less, this place is the epitome of sexy and if you’re wanting to get away celebrity style, particularly with a significant other, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is perfect.

2. Visit Rancho la Verdad through Baja Outback.

The idea of driving a hummer through the Baja outback in order to visit an organic farm was more than ironic to me when I was first proposed with the idea. But once I took the wheel of the hummer and man-handled the rocky ups and downs of the tenacious desert myself, I understood why we needed hummers. A company called Baja Outback will actually pick you up from your hotel and guide you through the outback on an hour and a half or so drive to an organic farm in the mountains called Rancho la Verdad. The drive is fun and scary and the guide stops along the way to show you the different kinds of cacti in the desert and explain what they’re good for. The ranch is run by a cute old couple and they’ve got most fruits imaginable on their grounds, they make their own wine, and have families of goats, as well as other animals. Organizing a trip to the ranch through Baja outback will include a packed lunch for you to eat on the grounds of the ranch as well as a stop on the beautiful grounds the movie, “Troy”, was shot.

3. Explore the Historic District of San Jose del Cabo.

Thursdays are gallery nights in San Jose del Cabo. I explored the art galleries on a Thursday and was given free wine at every gallery–which I heard is the tradition for gallery night down there. Needless to say, I was tipsy by the time I hit the third gallery, where I bought some jasmin/amber perfume made from ground-up amber. But the art is gorgeous and the people are great. Stop into H Restaurant and try their freshly made bread. Pair this still-soft-in-the-middle bread with one of their tasty wines and sampling of appetizers for a wrap-up in the historic district.

4. Eat at Frida!

Just a few minutes of a drive from Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is the restaurant Frida!, which is housed in a sister resort. The look and feel of this restaurant is purely classic and antique. The piano is played during dinner at times with an accompanying singer. The waitstaff embody service at its best and most importantly, the chef makes some of the best food I’ve had in Mexico. Keep in mind, this is a fine-dining experience, but if you’re going to go all out, you should at least consider Frida!
