Blake Griffin Wins Naismith Award
Tyler Hansbrough might win the national championship, but he was denied a second Naismith Award by Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Griffin said after accepting the award in Detroit. “This has been an incredible past four days, and the Naismith Award is the perfect way to cap off the trip. I’ve been blessed to receive tremendous support and education from my parents, my brother and my coaches, and from many others. I thank each and every one of them, and especially my teammates, for everything they’ve done for me.”
Griffin, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, led the nation in rebounding at 14.4 per game. He led the Big 12 in scoring (22.7 ppg), rebounding and field goal percentage (.634). Oklahoma went 30-6 this season and lost to North Carolina in the South regional finals of the NCAA tournament.
