Stephen Strasburg: Best College Baseball Prospect Ever?
March 10, 2009 Posted in College

Some college baseball scouts are calling San Diego State University’s 20-year-old right handed pitching star Stephen Strasburg the best they’ve ever seen.
At 6-4 220 pounds, Strasburg consistently throws in the high-90′s with pinpoint accuracy and is said to have hit 103 M.P.H. on the radar gun. Not only does he have an over powering fastball but as a scout tells ESPN, “He’s got a plus slider, at 93-94 mph, and he’s got a plus change-up. He’s the best I’ve ever seen.”
This summer Strasburg was the lone college player to be named to the USA Olympic team and “in his first start at the Olympics, Strasburg one-hit Netherlands over seven innings — striking out five of the first six batters he faced.” His 2009 college stats are just as impressive, “Strasburg has thrown 20.1 innings this season, and he has 45 strikeouts. That means that out of the 61 outs he’s registered, 45 are by strikeout.”
Strasburg has signed the the infamous Scott Boras to be his agent which is typically the kiss of death for college prospects because it severely dampers a teams ability to sign the player at a reasonable price. But despite this, it is projected that Strasburg will go 1st overall to the Washington Nationals.

2 words- Mark Prior
this kid is a lot better than mark prior ever was. He doesn't have the injury issues that prior had. Plus his fastball is consistently around 100 with movement. That is nothing compared to Prior. Plus Strasburg has a 95 m.p.h. slider which Prior could only dream about.
