There’s no denying it: This year, no movie is more anticipated than Watchmen. Between a massive marketing machine pumping the Internet full of teaser stills, posters and trailers and Sites the Web over (this one included) pushing every tidbit or factoid they can get into their grubby mitts – not to mention that it looks totally F’ing sweet – it’s become common knowledge that Watchmen isn’t just going to be good – it’s going to blow the doors off pretty much every other movie in existence.

But is it going to suck?

So far, the reviews have been mixed. Some have said that “watching the visual world of the Watchmen movie unfold was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve ever had. Not film experiences. Just EXPERIENCES.” Ok, that sounds good – maybe a little creepy, but good. On the other side of the review spectrum, Hollywood Reporter calls the movie “both nihilistic and campy,” adding that it’s going to be “the first real flop of 2009.”

We’re still holding hope that Watchmen with be as orgasmically awesome as its fans are reporting – but something tells us it’s going to bomb, big time.

Why don't you check the reviews out for yourself. Rotten Tomatoes uses those as their score basis. Currently, there are 17 reviews up — and the score has dropped from 92 to 76. Expect these fluctuations to continue as more and more reviews come out.

It has a 92% over at Rotten Tomatoes.

I guess you can cling to that Hollywood Reporter review if you want to think it’s going to suck, but the overall buzz is a LOT higher than mixed feelings.

How can a movie that hasn’t even come out have a 92% rating already? I really think that it won’t do well but mostly b/c people won’t understand it. Especially the ending. This isn’t supposed to be an action movie. The comic had more talking than action. People will go in thinking it’ll be like Iron Man or The Dark Knight, and it’s really nothing like those movies. This is more about characters and their back stories than heroes coming together to save the world. The sheer fact that it is different is what I think will hurt it the most.
Then again; I was honestly surprised that The Dark Knight did so well, and that people liked the story(and some actually understood it). They weren’t just seeing it b/c of Heath Ledger’s death.

havent read the comic yet, after all i wouldnt now any way. i dont know if i have missed something while sleeping 60 % of the movie, althoug i thought it should be some kind of action the 5 or 6 fighting scenes, all the animated stuff and the not succeded try of mixing something like sin city, max payne and fantastic four or what didnt impress me in any form. even the so wanted wow-effect at the end, no wow effect. this movie destroyed the story, that maybe might be not so bad…
