Ah yes, the tormented tatted twats of Stumptown. I see this flavor of femininity all over Portland (where the photog takes place), including my yoga class, but more often than not they’re striking poses in the coffee shop and sidewalk. Their Gorgeous! They’re Tortured! They’re Unavailable! Call me a philistine, but I find tattoos hideous. Like scribbling magic marker on the Venus De Milo. Just sayin’.
Yeah. They’re beautiful in a slightly hipper than hot-topic kind of way. I think the problem for me is that this “alternative” look is no longer “alternative”. It’s pretty much standard on all new models, which makes it not-so-special. Pretty safe, actually. Still beautiful, though.
I kind of have a thing for girls who have that ‘alternative/emo’ style.its soo hot.
I dig the tattoos because in the back of my mind it makes me thinks “Well maybe she likes the same music as I do, and maybe she goes to shows, and smokes weed…” But then it turns out they like Dashboard Confessional and are vegan. Whack.
Ah, Portland; How I pine for thee. Not all of these models are shot in Portland; though Portland is certainly one of the forerunners in this style.
It’s not that it’s become standard on all new models, it’s that this look has become a standard. Sure, it’s seen as a way of self expression and individuality, but so many of these girls have the same tattoos in the same place. I see it as a sign that the person is entirely unimaginative and they’ve just resigned themselves to indie pop-culture whoredom.
Though, being in the midwest again I fully appreciate this set; I miss these girls, and I never thought I’d say it, but I miss stumptown the most.
Come on guys! I can’t believe you would stoop to excoriating these fine examples of the feminine mystique. Everyone knows that to be a diehard individual, you have to have tattoos of bats and skulls and shiny happy stars, just EXACTLY like all the other diehard individuals — much like bikers who all wear black leather to show off THEIR rugged individuality.

That’s a really poor and ignorant analogy.
Bikers wear leather because they ride motorcycles. The jackets are designed specifically for that purpose, snap down collars, very heavy leather, heavy duty zippers, zippered pockets, it’s all there for a reason. All the stuff you see bikers wearing suits a purpose, and it’s all found in shops that sell gear for riding…non-slip steel toe boots to maintain traction and protect feet, chaps or leather pants to protect legs, gloves to maintain grip and protect hands…etc.
You get this stuff in 2 varieties, for sport riding, and for cruising. Sport riding gear is generally a bit more expensive, though it’s generally engineered around sport riding (lighter, more streamlined), and more effort is taken to present colors and designs. Cruising gear is pretty basic, and cheaper. I assume you have a problem with folks wearing cruising gear, but maybe you don’t now that you know why bikers wear leather…or perhaps you’d just like to see people who ride cruisers torn to shreds in the event of an accident…who knows?
In any case, these are all beautiful women. I don’t object to someone decorating their body at all, for whatever reason they choose.
