Time To Add Another Quarterback To The List

Now that the stage is set for Super Bowl XXLIII, we can safely assume that we we will be adding another quarterback’s name to the exclusive list of multiple-time Super Bowl winners. With Ben Roethlisberger’s Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the timeless Kurt Warner’s Arizona Cardinals, one of these two big game signal callers will be the tenth man to hoist multiple trophies above their heads triumphantly on Super Sunday. But is the list really that exclusive?
To this point, nine quarterbacks have won two or more Super Bowls and have ultimately combined to win 24 of the 42 Super Bowls – that’s more than half! Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana lead the group with four titles, while Troy Aikman and Tom Brady each have three. Bart Starr, Roger Staubach, Bob Griese, Jim Plunkett, and John Elway round out the list with two.
While it may seem like this list isn’t very exclusive, let’s not forget the importance of reaching the two Super Bowl champion plateau. Seven of the nine men on the list are in the Hall of Fame, and we can all agree that Tom Brady is soon on his way. Oddly enough, the only man on the outside of Canton looking in is Jim Plunkett, despite being
the first minority to win a Super Bowl and first Hispanic to be named Super Bowl MVP.
So will a second championship in Super Bowl XLIII put either Roethlisberger or Warner over the top to become worthy of a Hall of Fame induction? While Big Ben has plenty of time left in his career to add to his accolades, Warner must realize that February 1st might be his final push to reach the Hall.
