Top 5 NBA Players Likely To Be The Most Overpaid

Every year, there are plenty of NBA players that collect giant paychecks that don’t deserve to be paid anywhere near what the bottom line says on their tax return.  But let’s face it, the NBA Players Association knows what its doing.  Here we will take a look at the Top 5 players we expect to be the most overpaid players of the season.

1. Steve Francis, Houston Rockets

Amazingly, The Franchise is collecting $19.8M this year from Portland and Houston, despite barely being on the Rocket roster.  He is unlikely to play any minutes this year and will still be the 10th highest paid player in the league this year. Ridiculous.

2. Stephon Marbury, New York Knicks

Anything less than a miracle playoff run for the Knicks, and you can bet that Starbury will be one of the most overpaid players in the game this season.  Marbury’s $21.9M salary for 2008-09 ranks him tied with Allen Iverson as the second highest paid player in the game behind Kevin Garnett.  But Garnett and Iverson are integral members of their team’s success and Marbury is trying to avoid a pink slip and win the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

3. Raef LaFrentz, Portland Trail Blazers

The 32-year old former collegiate star is set to make nearly $13M this season, coming off a 1.7 point, 1.7 rebound season in 39 games last year for the Blazers.  He can expect even less time this season with Greg Oden in the middle, but will likely enjoy the courtside seats that come along with the millions of undeserved dollars.

4. Antoine Walker, Memphis Grizzlies

Walker will bring home $9.3M this season in Memphis despite the extreme possibility that he will never see time on the floor.  And how hilarious is it that Walker, once a vital player for the Celtics, is now a comedic figure as a member of a semi-comedic franchise.

5. Ben Wallace, Cleveland Cavaliers

The former defensive beast is now beginning to break down at age 34, yet is making more money than LeBron James this season.  Big Ben will collect $14.5M this year as his numbers continue to spiral down to
oblivion.
