Avoiding the Freshman Fifteen with Torrie Wilson

Three things are certain in college: bad cafeteria food, all-nighters, and the freshmen fifteen. That’s right the freshmen fifteen. It’s the end result of fried cafeteria food and all that beer accumulating in your stomach, giving you an embarrassing gut. But what if there was to avoid the freshmen fifteen?

There is, and former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson was nice enough to tell COED how.

Before joining the WWE and adorning the covers of Playboy, Torrie overcame an eating disorder by getting in shape and becoming a fitness model. Her body is so good that it earned her the title of Miss Galaxy. Lucky for us, Torrie was willing to take time out of her day to tell us about her personal fitness regimen to keep off the freshmen fifteen. So, for all you fat, out of shape, beer guzzling sweat hogs out there, put down the Natty and learn from a pro how to avoid the Freshmen fifteen.

Torrie knows that if given the choice between the gym and a bottle of gin, many students choose the ladder. If you’re going to be drinking a lot exercising four to five days a week is a good program to help avoid that beer gut with a heavy focus on cardiovascular exercise. Torrie’s key to a good cardio-program is to “start off small. Jog a mile or two building up to somewhere between three to five miles three times a week minimum.” This will not only help keep the weight off but “keep you very lean, even if you are drinking.”

When it comes to lifting weights Torrie likes to change things up between light and heavy weights. And for all the ladies out there, lifting heavy weights will not make you a she-male. “You have to do something to shock your muscles and get them to tone up” according to Torrie. When it comes to benching Torrie likes to use lightweights, but does a lot of reps. She benches 20 pounds, but with 60 repetitions.

In terms of a diet, Torrie personally watches what she eats but does not stress about it. “Because I work out often I don’t have to watch what I eat too strictly. I try to cut out my carbs later in the day and eat protein with every meal.” Torrie elaborated that she eats between, “five, maybe six small meals a day while cutting out sugar for the most part” even though she admits to giving in to temptation. “If I want to have a piece of cake, I’ll have a piece of cake.” She lightly quipped.

To design a regime, Torrie suggests designing one that your body responds to, but to not over do it. “I’ve over done it in the past,” Torrie admitted. “Training for fitness competitions by working out seven days a week when you don’t have a rest day makes it very easy to over work your body. Rest is just as important as working out because your muscles can’t repair and strengthen unless you give them time off.” How do you know you’re over doing it? For Torrie it’s being so tired that you don’t feel like working out. “It’s hard to wake up in the morning and I feel lazy all day and don’t have the energy you should get from working out.”

Next up is how long you should spend in the gym each day. Torrie says she spends “anywhere between an hour and a hour and a half.” The optimal time for Torrie to work out is in the morning around nine or ten rather then in the afternoon because you’re more awake and you won’t feel tired from your day.

Finally we answer the big question, how do we get started, especially if we’ve been off the wagon? Torrie says to “ease your way in” so you don’t over exert yourself.

Although Torrie Wilson is no longer with the WWE, she is still in the public eye. Torrie created her own coutre clothing line called “Jaded” for women and men. To check it out, go to OfficiallyJaded.com. We hope to see it next year at Fashion Week. Also, Torrie supports the charity Wrestler’s Rescue, an organization dedicating to providing health care for retired professional wrestlers. Wrestler’s Rescue is also raising money to help the victims of Hurricane Ike. Check out their site to make a donation and learn about their mission.

Finally, you can drop Torrie a line at T-Wilson.org or her MySpace page. Finally rumors have been swirling that Torrie might do a third photo shoot for Playboy. We sure hope so. We at Coed thank Torrie Wilson for taking the time to speak with us and wish her a fast and speedy recovery from her recent back injury. Good luck Torr’.

Hailing from the tumultuous land of South Africa, this blond hottie has more going for her than a midget in a limbo game. Scouted by a modeling agent in a flea market at age 15, Candice Swanepoel was already bringing in over $6,000-per-day by the time she’d turned 16. She’s appeared on the cover of Greek Vogue and has modeled for Nike, Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria’s Secret, as well as being listed on of COED’s Emerging Hotties of 2008.
