Tuesday’s Album Releases: Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman

Of all of the albums being released on this Tuesday, I just may be the most excited about the Tom Morello album. For those of you not in the know, Morello is the guitarist from legendary band, Rage Against The Machine, as well as Audioslave. I first heard about his solo music about a year ago.

My roommate had heard it and told me I’d be surprised by what I heard. While I was surprised, believe me, it was a pleasant surprise. Morello has got this raspy, Mark Lanegan meets Leonard Cohen voice that ornaments driving guitar riffs – “heavy” but not “loud” (as he refers to his music allusively in his own Myspace headline where he says, “You don’t have to be loud, son, to be heavy as sh*t!”)

The Fabled City,’ his solo album released today, is pretty freakin’ awesome from all that I can tell so far. I highly recommend it.

In the world of all that is emo/pop/punk/melodic/rock, there are some exciting releases today. Catchy band, Anberlin, has released their energy-filled, “New Surrender” today. Bayside, the band most notorious for continuing on with their careers even after the death of the drummer, released, “Shudder” today and as usual with Bayside, the choruses are contagious. Finally, Jack’s Mannequin released a beautifully intricate album today, “The Glass Passenger“. The label sent me the CD a month or so again and I’ll be the first to admit, I have been obsessed with it since.

Other releases today:

Ben Folds, “Way To Normal
James Taylor, “Covers
Trivium, “Shogun
Polysics, “We Ate The Machine
