Sometimes it can be difficult to properly grasp the full depth of metaphor used in a good ol’ fashion rap battle. (If you haven’t seen the original to this video, you can check it out here–NSFW Language.) Fortunately, some gracious people have fully explained both sides, so you can now understand why they start throwing punches.

On a side note, the guy who swings first is Brooklyn rapper, Justin “Math” Edwards. He plays the lead in this underground classic, Rap War One. That sh*t is off the chains. So cop that, ya heard?
