Republican’s Are Fired Up!

The stereotype of Republican’s being a bunch of stuffy old men (or comic book super villains to some liberals) was shattered at the Republican National Convention.

The Republicans, despite trepidation about nominee John McCain, are fired up and ready for the campaign against Barack Obama.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani summed up the Republican stance by comparing the election to the hiring process. He called the American people ‘the boss’ looking at the resumes of two potential employees and asked us whom we would hire based on their resumes. Giuliani acknowledged Hillary Clinton, agreeing with her statement about how the President needs to be ready for the call at 3:00 am.

Despite Giuliani’s rousing speech, he was only the warm up for Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. Palin gave a solid speech praising the integrity of John McCain as man of conviction, who cares more about his country rather then party lines. She chastised the media and told them she doesn’t care for their opinion. The main thing about Palin, what she lacks in foreign policy she’ll make up domestically. She plans to use her skills managing Alaska and apply it on a national scale. Finally, she laid out an energy policy that will propel us into the future by investing in alternative energy sources, and off shore drilling for the present.

One thing is certain about the Republican’s, the American people know what they stand for. While the Democrats talk about the flaws of the current administration, they fail to answer the simple question of “what are you going to do differently?” Democrats are against the wire-tapping but if it wasn’t for it there might not be a Brooklyn Bridge. Democrats are against our interrogation techniques and want prisoners treated like they are U.S. citizens. Unfortunately that will lead to soldiers being withdrawn from combat to testify in court, causing chaos in the military’s structure. We haven’t had an attack on U.S. soil since September 11th and it is because of legislation the Republicans created and passed.

The Republican Party is locked and loaded for this election. They want economic growth over economic redistribution and will continue their plan of a strong defense initiative. There positions are clear and you know where they stand, so you shouldn’t be surprised by what they passed. (One thing about Bush is you knew his stance on the issues. You may not have liked his stance but at least you knew.) So to coin a popular phrase, “go with the devil you know”. One way or another this is a historic election and no matter what once this election is over our country will never be the same.

are you kidding me? this article is so biased i thought it was just a story from fox news.

i think the american people are smart enough to realize that john mccain is just 4 more years of the same thing, voting with bush 90% of the time doesn’t make you a maverick, it makes you a puppet. and don’t even get started with the token candidacy of palin. not even karl rove disagreed with the fact that she was picked solely for political reasons, having nothing to do with her ability to contribute anything to actual policy.

let’s not have anymore op-ed pieces like this one on the website.

  • warner says:

mccain ≠ bush, you ignorant twat. they differ on all kind of issues, particularly the economy, torture, climate change, gitmo (mac wants to close it), education, and the list continues.

interesting article, todd. though perhaps the typos detract from it.

I can understand people not wanting to support Obama and/or the Democrats. I can accept and debate economic issues and the issue of Government vs. private with a Republican/Conservative. These things are debatable. Where it stops becoming a debate for me and reason(s) why I will *never* support the Republican party are such:

    1. Placing religion over science. Sorry, this is like placing History above Math. Totally apples and oranges.
    2. Shoe-horning evangelical christianity into Government. Religion does not belong in government ANYWHERE.
    3. Abstinence only sex education in schools. Get real, sex is here; people have sex, they will continue to have sex; START TEACHING ABOUT SAFE SEX.
    4. Intelligent design in schools. See point #1 and #2.
    5. Continually calling people who disagree with the Bush Administration / Right-wing as “unpatriotic.”

Until those 5 things are resolved with the Republicans & Conservatives. I will *NEVER* support them. I appreciate some areas in the economy/laws where government should be shrunk. I can debate with the right on taxation and privatization. I can even support the right on issues of the size of government. However those 5 things are DEAL breakers for me. This may be insulting to those on the right, but if you don’t see the logic in those 5 points, then you are an IDIOT.

I recognize that my opinions have no bearing to you and the right, but those 5 points are non-debatable topics for me. If I’m close minded, so be it, but imho, there is simply no way a truly intelligent or reasonable person could disagree with those 5 points.

This article seems relatively well written by a reasonably intelligent person (although biased), but please explain to me based on the 5 points I list above, how any intelligent person could *ever* support the Republicans/Conservatives.

If you’re in fact a libertarian and actually *voting* for a libetarian, then ignore this post. If on the hand you are actually going to VOTE for McCain/Palin. Then, imho, you have a sh*t-ton explaining to do.

  • Nolan Allan says:

ha you’re calling me the ignorant twat and you’re the one defending mccain? good call. he’s the third term of bush, no matter how hard he tries to distance himself from the president.

he wants to continue the trickle down economic bull shit that has failed to do anything to stop the current economy from tanking. oh i’m sorry, according to mccain’s advisor, i’m just whining and i have a mental recession. continue the bush tax cuts that give more money to the people who already have it, while at the same time taking money from those who lack it. great plan.

how does he differ on torture? he may give face value to the idea of opposing it, but he voted with the president and the republicans in favor of torture.

listen, if you don’t have a different opinion on climate change then bush, you must be a god damn idiot. that’s not a hard position to take. giving lip service to climate change does not make mccain a green candidate.

i could do this all day. mccain=bush.

  • jclark says:

McCain/Palin are going to win this you need to start accepting it. For the America hating socialist B. Hussien Obama its over.

  • Jimmy Carter says:

    Obama=Jimmy Carter

  • Kayla says:

It’s amazing to me what people criticize McCain and Palin for when Obama is basically a Socialist. Absolutely amazing.

If Barack Obama wins, just wait to see what happens to this country. Although I’m sure you’ll just blame it on the scapegoat George Bush.

And hey Nolan….talk about bias…where do you go for your news? I think we all know where the media leans so don’t bitch about one article that doesn’t bash Republicans.

  • w00master says:

People claiming that “Obama is a socialist.” Clearly does not know what a socialist is and needs to go back to school.

    Seriously.

  • Palin says:

Palin need to plus mccain out of the way so she can run a real race with out mccain in the way! Palin for president fuck mccain!
