As students prepare to either enter or return to college one thing is certain, students love gadgets and will spend big bucks to have them. While many of these gadgets are nice to have, not all are essential to the everyday college student. With tuition going up and cost of living on the rise, it is important that we get the technology we need at a price that doesn’t kill. Almost all “Must-Have College Gadgets” lists are compiled with absolutely no practicality in mind. While I think it would be awesome to own a 52” Plasma with my non-existent rich dad’s AMEX, I also know that it won’t fit under my crusty dorm’s loft bed. So, here is a list of college “must-haves,” but priced so students can actually get them.
Check out 6 Sweet College Gadgets after the jump!

1. Toshiba Laptop with AMD Turion X2 Dual Core-Processor RM-70 $549.99
This laptop will provide you with all that you will ever need as a student. It comes with 2 GB of RAM, but can be expanded to 4 GB and has a 250 GB hard drive. The built in web-cam and microphone allows you to record whatever you want, or what your girl will let you. Its 15.4-inch screen will support high-def 720p resolution, and it is very portable (5.5 lbs. and 1.3” thick).

2. Slingbox Solo $179.99
This device is a must have for students who do not want to pay for cable. By setting it up through your parent’s cable box at home, you can watch live streaming television through an internet connection on your PC.

3. Belkin 7-Port USB 2.0 Hub $49.99
This will make it easier to plug in all of your accessories to your laptop. While most laptops come with only 4 plug-ins, this will expand that to a whopping 10. Additional USB plug-ins are essential to any college student.

4. Sandisk 4GB Cruzer Titanium USB Flash Drive with U3 $49.99
Its titanium cover will allow for unbeatable protection. It is strong enough to withstand 2,000 lbs. of weight, but is small enough to fit into your pocket. It is very quick and its retractable plug means no more lost caps.

5. Shure SCL2 Sound Isolating Earphones $68.99
A must for any college student. These sound isolating earphones allow you to study in just about any location by blocking out the background noise while providing excellent sound quality. While they may not be as effective as other more pricey models, they are an excellent buy for the price.

6. Steel Security Safe $129.00
I understand that this is probably not one of the more flashy items one could buy, but it is essential to have while living with a roommate. It is large enough to fit most laptop models and leaves plenty of room for your money, IPod, etc. It is very important to have a safe when you are sharing a room with someone that you do not know.
