I think one of the reasons so few young people turn out is because it still feels like an old man's game. Who wants to vote on their grandfather's friends??? If the people we were voting for were in their twenties (not a suggestion), the turn-out would be much greater; however, I can guarantee that the older generation would greatly reduce.

wooing the youth vote is a waste of time. It's been shown time and again that people under 40 have poor turnouts and the rates get worse the younger (and especially farther left) they get.
No matter how 'aggro' the college liberals are about voting in Obama, when it comes time to wake up before noon and get to the polling place before 6pm, you won't be able to pry the beer bong from their hands long enough to actually get down there (that's assuming they actually registered). Of course even though the campus republicans are a bit better lets face it most people consider themselves liberal in college because they are indoctrinated as such and have no concept of the 'real world' because their parents are paying for everything and they think the government is somehow capable of the same thing. (it's not) So counting on the 5 campus republicans is just moronic.
That's to say nothing of the fact that many people in college tend to gravitate even further left or right than most of the parties as it is and feel neither party represents their views.
Politicians have been trying for years to woo youth voters and wasting a monumental amount of money for very little return in the process. If I was a campaign manager I'd focus no more than anyone has ever historically focused on the youth vote.
