Shape-Shifting Sky Scraper

artdubaiap.jpgArchitects revealed today the world’s first 80-story, shape-shifting skyscraper, dubbed ‘Dynamic Tower,’ which is scheduled to be completed in Dubai by 2010.

Each floor of the soon-to-be-built luxury apartment building rotates a full 360-degrees, completely independent from the other floors, powered by massive wind turbines located between each floor. Because of this, the building constantly changes shape, depending on the whims of its inhabitants.

From CNN.com:

“You can adjust the shape the way you like every given moment,” Fisher [the building's architect] said. “It’s not a piece of architecture somebody designed today and that’s it. It remains forever. It’s designed by life, shaped by time.”

Apartments will sell for around $3,000 per square foot, making each unit range in price from about $4 million to $40 million. Work on the tower is due to be completed by 2010, according to Dynamic’s Web site.

Fisher said plans to build a second rotating skyscraper in Moscow were at an advanced stage and that the group intended to build a third tower in New York. He said developers and public officials in Canada, Europe and South Korea had also expressed interest in the project.

Ok, as cool as this is, and as much as I hope they build one in New York (COED’s home), something tells me Dubai is going to eat some serious sh*t, one of these days. While we’re over here, blowing over $4 on a gallon of gas, those petroleum pumping D-bags are building F’ing islands and rotating skyscrapers. If I were you, Dubai, I’d watch my back…

How much you pay for gas is irrelevant.
Dubai is not oil rich. Most of their revenue is from tourism.
Abu Dhabi on the other hand is the city that depends mostly on oil.

Few questions. if every floor moves constantly:

    a) how the hell do you get in the front door without any problems?
    b) if your waiting for the elevator do you have to constantly walk to keep up with the elevator doors?
    c) isn't there a pretty good risk of motion sickness if your living day to day in a constantly moving building?

Its an awesome Idea, i just think it would be a hassle to live in a place like that, then again, I'll never have 40Mil to blow in my entire lifetime so I guess i don't have to worry about it much then, do I?
