Miami Recruit Arrested For Beer Bottle Bashing

You would think New Jersey’s high school “defensive player of the year” could fight like a man. But apparently, that is not the case.

The head football coach at the University of Miami said Tuesday the team is aware of the arrest of a Toms River High School North player slated to play for the Hurricanes next season.

Zach Kane, 18, of Bay View Drive was the Asbury Park Press Defensive Player of the Year last season and earned a full scholarship to play for the Hurricanes. He was arrested Saturday at a party on White Spruce Drive and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly breaking a bottle over the head of a fellow partygoer. [APP.com]

Elizabeth Burke had never heard of the Mifflin Streak before a friend encouraged her to participate in it just before midnight on May 5.

“I figured, we’re in the middle of a college campus,” she said Thursday. “It’s some harmless fun. … I was not expecting to be charged.”

Burke (sophomore-liberal arts), along with five other Penn State students, was charged last month with open lewdness and disorderly conduct for running naked down Mifflin Road on May 5. One other student was charged with open lewdness, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. [Daily Collegian]
