Name That Tune: Heineken Premium Light Commercial

Unless you’ve spent the last month hog-tied in an Austrian basement, you’re probably way too familiar with the obnoxiously catchy little ditty from the new Heineken Premium Light commercial. You know the one… “I need you… I need you every single day and I want yooouuu…”

The song in question is called “It’s Love” by New Zealander Chris Knox. It seems to come from the same commercially-creative vein as Yael Naim, of Macbook Air fame. (Maybe it’s just the duel diddling pianos.)

Either way, Chris Knox isn’t some hipster with a father in the recording industry. First of all, he was born in F’ing 1952. And then there’s this little tidbit: According to his Myspace page:

Chris Knox was the misfit lead singer of one of New Zealand’s very first punk bands, The Enemy. Their live shows were chaotic, loud and legendary culminating in Iggy Told Me where, on a good night and they were all good nights, the audience were treated to the sight of the manic front-man hacking into his forearms with the first bit of broken glass he could find or create.

Cutting his forearms with broken glass? Maybe this was in 1977, but WTF kind of maniac are we talking about here? We understand a punk rocker being punk rock. But Chris, maybe you should get your anger out in your songs, instead of on your forearms, dude.

How about this, we’ll all just pretend the word “love” is actually “hate” when we listen to that song, and you stop spraying blood on us when we come to your shows. Cool?
