With Arizona State’s Sun Devils stomping the Texas A&M Aggies in the final series of the WCWS, winning 11-0 to claim the title, we thought it’d be a good idea to recap with the one reason we love this sport: Women-only.

Taryne Mowatt

Pitcher, Arizona – #9

This 22-year-old Wildcats pitcher has been winning athletic awards since the beginning of her softball career, receiving league MVP in 2001, ‘02, ‘03 and ‘04, and was named Los Angles Times Player of the Year in 2004. That was high school. Most recently, Taryne was named the WCWS Most Outstanding Player in ‘07. Oh yeah, and she took some smokin’ pictures, too!

Krista Colburn

OF, UCLA – #13

Twenty-two-year-old Krista Colburn was named Easton first-team All-American, first-team NFCA All-Pacific Region, All-Pac-10 first team and second-team All-Pac-10 Academic. She led the Bruins in average (.382), runs scored (50), hits (66), triples (2) and on-base percentage (.483). To top it all off, she was one of five players to start all 55 games, leading off and playing left field in every contest. That, and she rocks the hell out of sky blue pants.

Callista Balko

Catcher, Arizona – #15

Callista Balko, 22, isn’t just good, she’s perfect–having caught every pitch in every inning during her 2006 season. With a major in history and business minor, Callista is planning a career in sports broadcasting. Watch out, Erin Andrews…

Ashley Constantini

OF, Seton Hall University – #1

Seton Hall Pirate Ashley Constantini, 22, threw three no-hitters, one perfect game and nine shutouts as a senior in high school, with an ERA of 0.88 and 133 strikeouts, and was named the 2007 BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Brains, athletic ability and a smokin’ bod. What more could you want? To meet her, that’s what.

Amber Tramp

Catcher, Ole Miss – #8

When Amber, a 20-year-old sophomore at Ole Miss, isn’t working hard in class, she’s busting her (nice) butt on the softball diamond. Amber is a catcher on the Ole Miss softball team and was named third team All-American by Louisville Slugger in High School. Yeah, she’s pretty much perfect

Adrienne Acton

OF, Arizona – #4

Adrienne Acton’s 22-year-old hotness is only rivaled by her athletic ability–she still holds the records for batting average, stolen bases, hits and fielding percentage at Marana High School. The only record we hold in in high school is for drunkest without dying, so we know how Adrienne feels to be great.

Megan Gregory

OF, Michigan – #1

Before heading to the University of Michigan, 21-year-old Megan Gregory was NFCA Academic All-America first team in 2006, ‘07, and NJCAA Academic All-America first team in 2007. She was also presented with the GRCC’s Merle Storr Award. Something tells us Michigan paid her to switch teams…

Annie Rowlands

U of Kentucky, Infield – #17

In high school, Kentucky freshman Annie Rowlands was a powerhouse. Named Team MVP 3 years in a row she broke school records in home runs and triples, while hitting .420 in her senior year. She was named to the Ohio-West Virgina All-Star team and led her team to a 28-2 record. And she cleans-up nicely, we bet.

Amber Matousek

U of Kentucky, P – #1

In high school, Amber tossed two no-hitters, the first two in school history. She was an All-State honorable mention, as well. As a freshman at Kentucky, Amber led the team with 17 starts and threw nine complete games, with 43 strike outs. What did you do as a freshman? Master GTA? Good for you.

Julie Burney

INF, UCLA – #14

Twenty-year-old Julie Burney, UCLA’s third-base(wo)man, may be cute, but she also started all 54 games of the 2007 season, and tied for third on the team with seven home runs, hitting .224 with 19 RBI, 21 runs scored and five doubles. Don’t worry, all that running just makes her hotter.

Katie Fleury

Notre Dame, SS – #12

Though we know little about 19-year-old Freshman Katie Fleury, her player profile describes her as a “gritty player with a beautiful arm…has the speed and agility to make the tough plays in the hole” and is “fundamentally sound.” More like fundamentally hot, know what I’m sayin’?

Misty Hall

SS, Virginia Tech – #18

Before joining the Hokies this year, Misty Hall played for Louisburg, where she was named 2006 ‘07 Region X Championship, District J Championship, and Region X MVP. For Louisburg’s ‘06-’07 season, Misty hit .496 for the season, recording 67 hits, eight home runs and 42 RBI. Oh yeah, and she had 16 doubles, three triples, 17 walks, an on base percentage of .561 and a slugging percentage of .837. And no, she’s not an alien.

Brittany Rogers

Alabama, OF

Brittany Rogers, an Alabama junior, has a laundry list of awards and achievements, including Louisville Slugger NFCA Second Team All-American, Easton Bell Sports First Team All-American, All-SEC First Team and USA Softball National Player of the Year Watch List, in 2007. So now she’s on our watch-list.

Sarah Smith

Notre Dame, OF – #34

This 22-year-old Fighting Irish senior started in 35 of 49 games in 2007, with superb defensive outfield performance, and batted .230 with 14 hit. scored 17 runs and tacked on a pair of doubles for the Irish. She stole four bases on the season and started the campaign by going 1-for-3 with a double and a score against UNLV on Feb. 17, ‘07. And that’s when she wasn’t drinking…

Stephanie Brown

Notre Dame, OF – #24

Twenty-three-year old Stephanie Brown’s list of achievements include NFCA Third Team All-American, 2006 NFCA All-Mideast Region, First Team, 2006 and ESPN The Magazine Second Team. She’s also a professional “smiler.” (We think.)

Angela Tincher

V Tech, P – #1

Angela is a softball strikeout legend. With 1,470 strikeouts at the end of her Junior year Angela has the sixth-best strikeout total in NCAA history. In 2007 Angela had 617 strikeouts, the fourth-highest single-season total in NCAA history and led the nation in ERA. She was invited to USA Softball’s National Team Training/Selection Camp in Summer, 2007 and the Olympic Team Tryout Camp in Fall, 2007. Just try hitting on this chick. It won’t work.

K’Lee Arredondo

SS, Arizona – #7

Wildcat K’Lee Arredondo may be the only person responsible for her stellar softball career, but she’s certainly not alone–21 members of her immediate family live within a two-block radius of her home in Tempe, AZ. So…definitely don’t stalk this one.

Jessica Everhart

V Tech, OF – #8

Jessica is a smooth fielding veteran leader in the outfield committing only two errors in her career starting in center field! She’s also a second-team all-state selection in the outfield, as selected by VaSID, was one of five players to start all 65 games for the Hokies, and batted .274 on the season with 52 hits, including five doubles and four home runs. Just think of her as a blond, female, softball-Jesus.
