FSU’s Punishment for Gun Toting, Pot Smoking WR is a Joke

Florida State placed standout football player Preston Parker on athletic probation, suspended him for two games and will require him to adhere to six conditions after the junior wide receiver pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors Monday in Palm Beach County court.

The charges? Parker had been accused of “misdemeanor possession of marijuana and with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony.” This news comes only months after he was caught shoplifting in 2006. [Sports by Brooks]

First White Valedictorian at Morehouse College in 141 Years

Joshua Packwood knows what it’s like to be a minority.

This weekend he’ll be the first white valedictorian to graduate from the historically black, all male Morehouse College in the school’s 141-year history.

Morehouse, in Atlanta, Georgia, is one the nation’s most prestigious universities of its kind. For more than a century, the school has prided itself on personifying the dream of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the school’s most notable alums, by producing “Morehouse Men” – intelligent and successful black leaders.

“Because I’m one of the only white students, it’s easy to call me ‘the white boy,’ I’m naturally going to stand out,” says Packwood. [CNN]

Welcome to the 2008 end of season banquet for the LSU rugby club team held at some restaurant in Baton Rouge. It’s a time to reflect on a successful season, drop thank you gifts on the coach and, of course, pass a bottle of Southern Comfort amongst team members.
