“Birthday Girl,” a song recorded by The Roots with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump on vocals, has been taken off the hip-hop group’s upcoming album, Rising Down, due to the collabo sticking out like a sore thumb amongst heavier songs. After hearing the song — an autopilot riff, lyrics that are sing-songy and aloof — I can understand why, seeing The Roots’ drummer Questlove has said Rising Down is “the most incendiary, political album of our career to date.”
Yeah…incendiary and political this is not. Then again, would you have wanted it to be?
