There are very few things you can guarantee in the this world.
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. The French will screw things up when given the opportunity
We ALL know the Chinese are evil. The concept of the current protest is to make everyone aware of how the Chinese are brutally murdering anything in Tibet that is not a Yak. Unfortunately, their brutality has been going on for a while. No matter how many times you try to put out the Olympic torch, they are going to continue killing Tibetans.
At this stage of the process, there is no level of protest that will remove the Olympic games from Beijing. All we can hope for now, is that when half of the globe does head to China, they stop to look at Tibet and acknowledge that something needs to be done. While in France, protesters have attacked 3 Olympians – 1 in a wheelchair – in an attempt to douse the torch. They succeeded on their third try; the wheelchair guy was a little slow in his reaction time.
So now, the Parisian run has been canceled, and the rest of France is whining that they are being punished for the actions of the protesters. Worse still, now the Olympic committee is contemplating cutting down on the torch locations.
Did the French just blow it for the rest of us?

I recommend that you remove such a racist statement as ” We ALL know the Chinese are evil”. I do not support the Chinese government whatsoever, and I believe the Olympics should be Boycotted. But to say the Chinese are EVIL? common… what the hell is wrong with you guys??!! There are millions of Chinese immigrants allover the world, under your logic we have that the Nazis makes all germans evil. Robert Mugabe makes africans evil, and Hugo Chavez makes all Venezuelans evil.
Your website is read by a potential new generation of leaders and you go and write this BS.
Sheme on you

Actually Stevenlee, I have been to China.
Some parts are pretty cool, others display the absolute and utter abuse of mankind upon each other. I saw mothers and children sleeping on the f**king sidewalk with blankets, only to be beaten by police when the “guilo’s” (slang for white foreigners) are not around.
This is the chance for everyone to see the abuse in China – WTF does trying to put out the torch do?

That is one of the greatest bullshit I have read in the last time. Typical american common sense: evil is everywhere outside the USA.
What happened a few days later in San Fransisco ?
What is happening in guantanamo?…ohhh of course… fighting evil.
Dear Editor, I visited your country as well and I saw poverty, racism, violence, stupid cops, intolerant people, etc…
The difference is, that I don’t think that the American are evil..
Hope to read an article here soon about what the US are screwing up for the rest of the world with their F’ing War…

LOL
Cyrano…whoooaaaahhhhh.
TO begin, the article is joking at the prospect of China being part of the “Axis of Evil.”
Second, what country are you from?
Third, what terrorism has taken place in France? None. Guantanamo is a knee-jerk reaction to the deaths of thousands within the US borders. I assure you, if the Eiffel Tower went down while thousands of French were chillin’, eating croissants or something – France would have a barbed-wire city where a hodgepodge of ethnicities would be hoarded up and waterboarded for years to come.
The issue in this article is the public response. Dousing the Olympic torch, is not the avenue for expression – period. Write a book, make a sign, start a PR campaign, whatever – leave the torch alone. It is a symbol of the Olympic spirit and not some tool for activists to play with for public attention.
Vive le Liberty!

Hi editor,
I was born in France, but I am living somewehere else in Europe since 20 years.
“If the eifel tower….” may be you are right…and may be not. French people will also screw up the purpose of their government
Just have a look at History. There are many examples.
Of course I think you are right that Dousing the olympic torch will not change the Chinese Politic, but for activists it ist the best PR they can have for ages… just like other PR People use the System at any time.
I also do not want that the olympics will be spoiled but :
The US are shiting on every democratic principle with Guantanamo etc…
Activist are shiting on the olympic spirit for their purpose.
what is worse? Choose your side!
vive la liberty

Tao, man, everyone knows when the Editor wrote down “We know the Chinese are evil”, he didn’t mean the race as a whole. I am a Chinese-Canadian and am totally not offended by what he has to say. Actually, I completely agree with the Editor.
Stop messing with the torch man. The olympics are not about politics. It’s about the spirit of competition and creating closeness between countries despite political tensions.
