Floyd Mayweather Comes to the WWE

Floyd Mayweather WWE

The greatest pound for pound fighter in the world is about to step into a different ring. Last night on WWF RAW, Floyd Mayweather accepted the challenge of “The Big Show” Paul Wight for a match that will most likely occur at Wrestlemania 24.

The storyline for the match began at Sunday night’s WWE Pay Per View, No Way Out, when The Big Show attacked WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio Jr.

Mayweather, a Mysterio fan, was in the audience and decided he had seen enough and confronted the Big Show. The Big Show shoved Mayweather, who responded with a series of stiff shots (read: closed fist punches) to the wrestler’s face, giving him a bloody nose.

While everybody knows that Professional Wrestling is an athletic spectacle, it appears that the WWE is trying to hype the match as an actual fight, with Shane McMahon issuing a release to the press that “there is always some type of interaction between the wrestlers and the celebrities, but you just don’t cross that barrier. Big Show did instigate it, but it got carried away.”

The Big Show told The Daily News that Mayweather “stepped into my ring and punched me. He’s going to have to answer for that.” While Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe stated, “Things got out of hand. But (Big Show) was talking a lot of trash and he got what he deserves.” He justified Floyd’s participation as an expansion of his fan base because “you can only become so big in boxing.”

Mayweather is the latest in a line of celebrities who have participated in Wrestlemanias. Other notables are Donald Trump, Mr. T and Mike Tyson. And who can ever forget Lawrence Taylor’s match against Bam Bam Bigelow (God rest his soul)?

In addition to Floyd Mayweather’s match, this year’s Wrestlemania will have Triple H challenging Randy Orton and John Cena for the WWE Championship; the Undertaker will take on Edge for the World Heavyweight title in a battle of Wrestlemania undefeated streaks. Finally, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair may have his last match on the card, after he receives the honor of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Hopefully they will also induct “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

Wrestlemania 24 will take place live at the Citrus Bowl on March 30th and is available on Pay Per View.

I think that this is a good move by both sides. Wrestlemania is always a huge event and Mayweather is a really big name in the boxing world. Both sides will be able to use the other for cross promotion, i.e. Mayweather will get WWE a lot of “mainstream” press and WWE will encourage their loyal audience to pay for Mayweather’s next fight.

I agree with Andy. Pretty Boy Floyd is going to get his ass kicked too – with his small reach i’m not sure he could even hit Big Show in the face and as a middle weight he doesn’t pack the punch to knock out a 400LB man no matter where he hits him.

This is a joke. I’m posting on here as a boxing fan, not a WWE fan, and by the comment that someone made that floyd is a middleweight, i take it i’m the only one. i have nothing against WWE, i used to watch it when i was younger, i know it is entertainment, but this is not a fight, quit predicting the outcome. floyd’s going to win the “match” because its already been decided, and a professional wrestler will not and can not hurt a professional athlete of an actual sport(not dissing WWE again, it’s just not a sport, it’s a spectacle). For anyone who knows anything about boxing, i’d like to say to you that this is the sign that if floyd’s next fight (the P-4-P king will not take 2 years off at the prime age of 30), if it’s against a real fighter, which mean Miguel Cotto, he will lose. he’s done with boxing, and is starting to slip away. I think he deserves all the fame he gets, and no doubt he will get some more from this “fight”, but he’s done with boxing now. And no, floyd will not become a professional wrestler. he’s a real fighter(just to notify you, this is an insult to WWE)and isn’t going to act out fights for the rest of his life.

Natalia Cigliuti and the Week That Was: June 29th – July 3rd

You probably recognize Natalia Cigliuti as Chloe from Beverly Hills 90210 because your girlfriend made you watch it with her. Or maybe you were by yourself, just admiring how talented the actresses were. Anyways, Natalia has made a name for herself in the TV world and was one of the regulars on the recently cancelled Raising The Bar, another show about lawyers doing law things in their own non-traditional style.
