Why College Students Abuse Over The Counter Cold Medicine
January 12, 2008 Posted in News-ish
Chances are many of you reading this have abused cold medicines in the past. It’s such a rampant problem that the South Park guys dedicated an episode to it.
The government’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration said 3 million young people in the United States between the ages of 12 and 25 admitted getting high off the medicines at least once.
The Agency said an overdose on cold medicine may result in serious life-threatening adverse reactions, including irregular heartbeat, delirium and death.
People abuse cold medicine for a sh*t load of reasons!
Here are a few:
- It’s easy to get a hold of.
- It’s got “cool” wigger slang terms like “tussing,” “roboing,” “dexing,” and “robotripping” – who wouldn’t want to robotrip?!
- It’s trendy in Hollywood.
- Peer pressure.
- Won’t get busted carrying it.
- Don’t run the risk of getting roughed up in a dark alley when buying it.
- “I won’t get busted chugging it in my bedroom because I’ll just tell mom ‘I have a tummy ache.”
- It’s “safer and less addicting” then popping pills… and the list goes on.
These reasons are not based on fact and don’t make abusing cold medicine safe. Like huffing in the 90′s the trend of abusing cold medicine will pass by 2010 so I’d recommend sticking to safer more traditional forms of substance experimentation like keg chugging or smokin’ doobies.
