Mitchell Report Backlash: a Black vs. White thing?

Mitchell Report

Anyone who knows the national sports scene, knows Dan Le Batard. He is a writer for the Miami Herald and is on PTI when one of those guys needs a break. So, I am sitting here working the all-night study session for Calculus II, and I put on his show today in the background. Dan sat down with Bob Ryan from the Boston Globe – and together they made a great point.

Yeah, yeah – by now, anyone who has ever even read the sports page while crapping, has looked at the Mitchell Report, but the question remains…what now? Bob and Dan asked, what about Clemens and whether the media with go after him like Bonds? The media crucified Barry Bonds (we’ll all concede, he is black guy), and there was mild attack on the leak that Roger Clemens (white dude…agreed) was on the list but not a lot of press. Is there a double standard or is it just the Barry has been a douche to the media?

Where will there be justice? Hall of Fame voting. The real test will be in how long, or IF those on that list make it into the Hall of Fame – but is that justice? I really don’t think so. I have read everything I could find on this report, but here is the kick in the ass. This report is relying on trainers, towel boys, jock strap collectors, and Jose Canseco. 4 levels of disloyal douchebaggery that I wouldn’t trust to shave my taint. This list is only an “implication” anyway, but it is generally agreed that some of the players on that list have either been obnoxious to the press, juiced while playing or played WELL.

Barry Bonds, who is all of the above, still has timing, a good eye, and a keen sense of game – sans “the clear.” There are guys on that list that juiced for years and I have no idea who the hell they are! You want to put an * on the ball, whatever – but you cannot deny Barry a place in Cooperstown. I know we all have personal ideas and ideals about this, but let me try putting it this way. The Hall of Fame was designed for fans. So that we and our children, grandchildren, and assorted other dependents can go and marvel at the history of baseball. On display, are players and personalities that helped defined baseball in their respective eras. If you like sports, you can’t deny that you were a part of the homerun craze to hit and surpass 61, that was baseball. Watching Clemens redefine himself from Boston, to Toronto, to New York, that was baseball. (Andy Pettite, you are just screwed.)

White, Black, Latino or Asian (not 1 f**king Asian was juicing?) – if you took steroids, you are a cheater and we should put you on display, point and laugh at your shrinking grundle. However, for the iconic few – there is a double standard. This standard should extend beyond race and ethnicity, and into whose career made an impact on baseball. Take Pujols – he’s on the list, and his career is probably screwed. Tough luck Al. Good luck in wrestling or MMA. We would never know how he would have performed off the juice – Bonds and Clemens are talented genetic marvels at the way they have been able to maintain their skill, not just strength, throughout their careers.

Call it what you want, but their impacts NEED to be memorialized in Cooperstown.

The ball should NOT be in Cooperstown, but I will give you Bonds deserves it. I am on the fence about Clemens. He wouldn't be the longterm star he is without the juice.

  2. Jeremy K. says:

The Report says that SOME guys never really testified, it was just someone's word against theirs. Since they didn't testify those assholes destroyed their reputations without any due process. That's crap.

  3. GQ says:

Cheating is cheating – they should be out of Cooperstown. It lessens the honor for those who played fair.

  4. C00perst0wn says:

I think the point, one of the first good ones I have read here – is that did they help define baseball in their era? Then yes, they did – but is that what Cooperstown is about? Moving forward in professional sports, this kind of shit is only going to get worse. After this, things will quiet down for a couple of years, but then some dude is going to come into the pro's who uses something new. We won't even know about it until he retires or dies. Then what?

  5. This is Crap says:

it is not a racial thing – why does everything become about race? Clint you are retarded and looking for something to complain about!

  6. BatBoy says:

This seems to be a "Big Boy" conversation Crap – go look at porn or something if you are up this late.

If you let them into Cooperstown – with blemished records – what does that say to the future players? It says, "If you are good, cheat and you can be better."

Your point makes some sense, but I think leaving them both out makes a stronger message for the future of baseball.
