The Sports Illustrated 2007 “Sportsman of the Year Award” Goes to…Brett Favre!

December 4, 2007     Posted in News-ish, Sports

brett favreBrett Favre is as American as Apple Pie. That’s why hearing he won the 2007′s Sportsman of the Year Award brings a tear of joy to my eye.

For years Favre has been the epitome of an American hero. A hard-working southern boy who hasn’t missed a day of work since the mid-90′s – and at age 38, in the twilight of his career, is “having one of the finest seasons of his stellar career.”

Not only does Favre bring class to the field, but he brings it off the field as well.

While his QB peers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady commercially pimp themselves to the highest bidder (and hook up with foreign supermodels who refuse to get paid in American currency in one case), Brett Favre keeps a low profile. He films low-budget commercials for local mom and pop businesses and is married to New York Times Best Selling author, Deanna Favre.

When his career comes to a close Favre will be known as one of (if not the) greatest quarterback of all time. Just look at his records: most career NFL touchdown passes (436), most consecutive starts among NFL quarterbacks (249, with 269 total starts including playoffs), most career pass completions (5,317), most career pass attempts (8,662), and most career victories as a starting quarterback (156).

Favre is second only to Dan Marino (61,361) in NFL career passing yards with 60,912.

In a time when the NFL is getting lackluster press, Brett Favre is a shining star that represents the best of America’s sport.
