Athletes Who Have Done Time

Pete Rose

With Mike Vick surrendering to police earlier this week, Mike Tyson getting sentenced to 24 hours in jail, OJ going on trial (again) and Barry Bonds facing serious time we must take a look at high and low profile athletes who have been locked up in the past.

Dwight Gooden

NL Rookie of the Year in 1984 – and the Cy Young winner in 1985, when he led the majors in wins, strikeouts and ERA – Doc has a long history of cocaine and alcohol abuse. He began serving a one-year prison term in April 2006 related to probation violations.

Darryl Strawberry

strawberry mugshot

The 1983 NL Rookie of the Year and an eight-time All-Star, Strawberry has had numerous run-ins with the law. He served 11 months in prison for probation violations stemming from a cocaine-possession charge.

Rae Carruth

The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver was sentenced to nearly 19 years in prison in 2001 for his role in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend.

Sean Taylor

Jamal Lewis

RIP – Taylor was arrested in the past but according to EVERYONE that knew him Taylor’s life was on the right track. He was a loving father and a great teammate.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson

The former heavyweight champion served three years after being convicted in 1992 of raping an 18-year-old beauty-pageant contestant.

Denny McLain

denny

A former 31-game winner with the Detroit Tigers, a two-time Cy Young winner and a three-time All-Star, McLain did time after being convicted on charges of money laundering, embezzlement, mail fraud and conspiracy relating to the pension fund of a Michigan meat-packing company.

Hollywood Henderson

The former All-Pro linebacker, who admitted to using cocaine on the sidelines during his days with the Dallas Cowboys, was sentenced to two years in prison in 1983 after pleading no contest to threatening and assaulting two teenage girls.

Maurice Clarett

Maurice Clarett

Former Ohio State running back star Maurice Clarett’s was handed a 7 1/2-year sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

  • Johnny says:

Your Jamal Lewis picture is wrong…that is former strong safety Sean Taylor who was just killed….you should do some better research…

  • Ben Hobbs says:

    Why are they ALL black?

  • Josh says:

He’s right , that’s not Jamal Lewis. They are all black because 90% of athletes today are black so the majority of troublemakers will be black.

  • Chuck says:

Clarett also had an interaction with Sean Taylor, who just died. He stripped the ball from him in the Fiesta Bowl when the Buckeyes won the national championship. Weird how one is dead and one is in jail now. Clarett is, I’m fairly sure, mentally ill on some level. But you never really know what contributes to these situations when you’re an outsider.

  • Geoff says:

They’re ALL black because these idiots failed to post an image of the only white guy they listed.

    Weak.

  • frank says:

    Pete Rose is black?

  • what says:

Another narrowminded article. Why’re the ones mentionned here black americans, as though whites or latinos or anyone else never committed crime?

Just rename the article ‘black athletes who have done time’.

  • Editor says:

stop turning this into a race thing! the only two white athletes to ever serve “hard time” are listed there – pete rose and denny mcclain. prove me otherwise!

  • Ben says:

Denny McLain is white dude, and the last time I looked… so is Pete Rose. But what would have been even better is if Bill Lee, Mark Chmura, Lex Luger or even Jose Canseco (Cuban) had been thrown down. Just to name a few.

  • Brandon says:

Ben, Cuban is not an ethnicity. It’s a nationality. Jose Conseco is Hispanic.

  • Bryan says:

Anyone crying out a racist card, is utterly retarted. It IS infact, you narrow minded pea brain biggots like yourselves that are holding back society becoming a whole. I hope for the rest of the world, that YOU people face nothing but scurtiney and racism yourselves. Maybe that will shut you up once and for all. There are bigger issues then racism at large, and by returning focus to events of the past only create reverse racism, a trend that continues to grow in it’s popularity. “why are you only showing black athletes”
you pansy ass complaining pussies. Go F**K yourselves, grow up, and welcome to the year 2007 where YOU will not be tolerated to live amongs the rest of what we like to call NORMAL SOCIETY

  • irene says:

hhahahahahahhaa you boys are funny. the guy w/the star earrings is hot, but apparently his pic shouldnt even be there, lol.

  • AlexM says:

    Your blog is interesting!

    Keep up the good work!
