I find what you say very intersting and for the most part I agree with you, however there is a difference between being chivalrous and treating a woman with respect are two different things. Equality or not, many women (even in the USA) are still not respected, several women are still victims of domestic violence and rape. Equality doesnt mean that only women should be respected. I am all for respecting everyone, men and women alike.

I totally agree. I'm one of those that believe that who ever who earns more should pay more - man or woman (or go dutch), and one of those that looks down on girls earning a good pay and using none of their money at all, believing that it is their right to leech money off guys. I often say, open your own door (whoever is in front, man or woman) and chivalry should actually be courtesy instead, applicable to the world's occupants, regardless of race or age or gender. (http://rationalneurotic.liquidblade.com/?p=722 view only on thursday 20th)

Well said! I have the same sentiments myself. I've been accused of being a feminist in the past among my girlfriends because I believe in equality in a relationship between men and women. Women shouldn't expect things from men. If men do them, that just means the men are gracious enough to do so. It's a privilege, and should not in any way be a right. Women should be able to rely on themselves for things they need. Who said that a girl needs a guy to open doors for her? Who says she can't open the doors for a guy? Women should enable themselves to learn independence. Anything less IS a form of disrespect.
