Good news for Colbert fans!

As we reported days ago in our article “Fastest Growing Groups in the History of Facebook,” Stephen Colbert’s Facebook group “1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert” is the fastest growing group in the social network’s history.

At it’s inception the groups goal was to reach 1,000,000 members in seven days.

The 1,000,000 member mark was crossed on Friday, October 27th at 4:30AM!

Facebook’s power to influence the masses is incredible and Colbert is the first Presidential hopeful to have success within this tech medium.

Like we said, it will be tough to get all (or even 1/2) of the 1,000,000 members off their laptops and into a voting booth but if anyone has a shot to turn this Facebook phenomenon into a killer marketing scheme it’s Stephen Colbert.

A little food for thought: when we first broke the Colbert story on October 22nd Hillary’s group was sitting at 488,000 users and Barack’s group was at 381,000. Since then (4 days later) Hilary’s group grew by 20,000 members, Barack’s by 3,000 members and Stephen T Colbert’s by 580,000 users!

While I understand some of the criticism from more politically-savvy types, it cannot be denied that online friend communities (mostly consisting of college students) being enthusiastic about political change is a major step in the right direction. Kudos to all involved.
