When news about Radiohead’s new album went cold for a few months, people expected a big announcement from the camp – but nothing like this.

In typical Radiohead fashion, a cryptic message was found on their website last night:

“Hello everyone.

Well, the new album is finished, and it’s coming out in 10 days;

We’ve called it In Rainbows.

Love from us all.”

Yes, you read that correctly: 10 days. As in next Wednesday, October 10.

Not only does Radiohead’s latest come out much sooner than expected but the album’s price is worth mentioning. The digital download of In Rainbows will cost…whatever you want it to cost!

Radiohead has decided to act like a museum, having you donate a small fee towards the download instead of being charged a set amount. That means you can own one of the greatest bands of the past two decades’ new album for the price of a small coffee – not a bad deal.

If you’re one of the millions of Radiohead fans that prays at their altar and purchases special-edition boxsets at the drop of a dime, fear not: the band will also be releasing a “discbox” edition of In Rainbows that includes the following:

“THIS CONSISTS OF THE NEW ALBUM, IN RAINBOWS, ON CD AND ON 2 X 12 INCH HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL RECORDS.
A SECOND, ENHANCED CD CONTAINS MORE NEW SONGS, ALONG WITH DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND ARTWORK.
THE DISCBOX ALSO INCLUDES ARTWORK AND LYRIC BOOKLETS.
ALL ARE ENCASED IN A HARDBACK BOOK AND SLIPCASE.
THE ALBUM DOWNLOAD AUTOMATICALLY COMES WITH THIS PACK.”

This discbox set will cost £40.00 (around $80) including shipping. A bit pricey, but I must give props to Radiohead for offering up their music for free (basically) and only really charging their consumers for high-quality vinyl, extra songs and limited-edition artwork.

This discbox effectively separates the true fans from the herd.
