I Want My Duff!

duff beer7-Eleven and 20th Century Fox teamed up for what is considered to be the promotion of the century when 12 7-Eleven stores were converted into Kwik-E Mart’s in anticipation of Fox’s “The Simpsons Movie.â€? It is also the biggest missed opportunity of the century.

While at the Kwik E Mart’s you can get products from the TV show the movies based off of like Squishes, Krusty O’s and Buzz Cola. However there is one product conspicuously absent that probably would’ve been the biggest seller of them all; ‘Duff Beer’!

I decided to investigate this matter myself and asked Jeff Davies, the manager of the Kwik E Mart in New York City, why Duff Man had been thrust out of the promotion. According to Mr. Davies the decision was made on a corporate level due to the movie being rated PG-13 and the parent companies, Fox and 7-Eleven decided it would not be appropriate to tie an alcohol based product in with their movie. However, he also believes that Duff would’ve been a fun product as well as a huge hit with the college crowd. If the sold out Buzz Cola and Krusty O’s were any sign Mr. Davies would be correct.

By thinking of the children Fox and 7-Eleven missed an incredible opportunity. We know the movie is rated PG-13 but a great deal of us Simpsons fans are responsible adults and think it would be pretty cool if Budweiser packaged their beer in Duff cans and bottles for a month. The amount of people who would buy it for the collectible value alone would pay for double the licensing fee. But alas, 7-Eleven and Fox decided to sit on a gold mine of the children and left Duff on the shelf with Laramie Cigarettes, and the syrup squishee.

Even though there is no Duff, if you live near any of the 12 Kwik E Mart locations they are worth checking out, especially if you’re a Simpsons fan. But get there soon time is running out, the promotion ends on July 31st. Also, if you are looking to get your hands on Krusty O’s or Buzz Cola get there early they have tendency to sell out. “The Simpsons Movieâ€? opens July 27th everywhere.
